Open City Documentary Festival (OCDF) create open spaces across London to nurture and champion the art of non-fiction cinema. It is a Section-B BAFTA qualifying festival for the British Short Film award and a BIFA qualifying festival for Best British Short. Identifying the need to strengthen the festival’s visual appeal, OCDF asked us to design a new brand that would act as a foundation for future events.

Building on the concept of open spaces, combined with the idea of seeing the world through the viewfinder, we designed a dynamic mark that complemented the highly diverse content seen at the festival. The system was created to hand off to the in-house team, using a bold, grid-driven language to display content. Celebrating its 12th year in 2022, the identity is still in use today, working to help the festival expand its offering.

We built out the identity with a range of brand collateral to help OCDF transition into full in-house management of the festival’s design.
